Step 1: Assemble these tools: eye scale, sharp pencil, doll scalpel, soft brush, and
eye bevelers.
Step 2: On the greenware head,
draw an outline around the eye socket
so you won’t cut outside the designated area.
(this line will be visible
until you have nearly completed the cutting procedure)
Use the eye scale to measure the openings
from inside
corner to outside corner.
Now, pencil in the eye opening size on the back of the head
(to be cleaned off later).
Whatever that measurement is, go up by two’s three times.
Place the numbers on the head starting with the highest number.
For example if the eye opening is 18 you would write:
24
22
20
18
Step 3: Gently scrape away clay from the starter hole
alternating
from the top to the bottom until you are
within a 2mm distance from
the drawn outline.
Step 4: After trimming to within 2mm of the penciled
line rotate
the largest number eye beveler
inside the socket until it fits flat.
Step 5: With the scalpel,
time the opening closer by scraping back
and forth,
getting closer to the pencil line.
Do not remove the
line yet.
Continue to the next largest beveler and repeat
inside the socket until the tool firs flat.
Trim again, this time removing the pencil line.
Step 6: Measure the opening again with the eye scale.
Make sure the openings
are the same size
as the first measurement(marked on the head).
This leaves only the tool size that is just
above the measured size.
Rotate that beveler into the socket until it fits flat.
Remove any rough areas outside the opening with a soft, dry brush
